Mechanical finishing

 Mechanical finishing
Mechanical finishing is defined as any operation performed to improve the fabric appearance or functionality by physical manipulation. Steam or water may accompany the physical manipulation; however chemical except lubricants seldom used. Fabric lustre, smoothness, softness, residual shrinkage and hand are the properties that can be altered by mechanical finishing.
Some of the mechanical finishes are:
1. Calendaring
2. Shearing/Cropping
3. Raising (Napping or Sueding)

Raising is the term used to create pile on the surface of fabric. In this fibres are deliberately pulled out of yarn to give a hairy or fuzzy appearance and soft surface. Napping and sueding are two techniques to create surface piles. These are the surface finish not only enhance the appearance and hand of fabric but also give some bulk & improve the warmth of fabric.
Sueding:
Sueding machine also called as sueder or sander, it develops a very low pile on fabric surface. A soft and smooth surface is obtained similar to peach skin so it is also called as peaching effect. The hand will depend on the fibre composition, the filament fabrics can be made to feel like spun fabric.
The sueding machine is made up of some rotating rollers coated with abrasive paper/emery paper and the fabric is run in touch with these rollers which emerise the cloth.
The sueders/sueding machines are of two types:
1. Single-cylinder Sueding machine
2. Multi-cylinder Sueding machine

Single cylinder sueders have one abrasive covered metallic roller and one rubber covered compression or pressure roller, water circulates through the interior of cylinder to prevent abrasive covered roller from expanding as it generates heat from friction. The pressure roller presses the fabric against abrasive cylinder and it is micrometer adjustable. The care must be taken to closely check the deterioration of the abrasive material. It must be periodically changed to get uniform sueding effect throughout the production.

Multi-cylinders has usually large no. of emery coated rollers each independently driven and they can be rotated clockwise or anticlockwise.

  1. Abrasives are used in a wide range in all aspects of construction such as domestic and industrial. Abrasives are used to make smooth, large, or similar surfaces. Abrasives are available in different shapes such as Velcro Disc, Waterproof Abrasive Paper, Fibre Disc, and Abrasive Belt. KatyaniAbrasives is the top-level Abrasive Manufacturer brand from Ghaziabad India.

  2. Fibre Disc are used to grinding curved surfaces of metal. We use this tool prior to painting, polishing, and finishing a product. We use Fibre Disc, after welding or connecting products, we only apply them to dry products. There is a lot of Fibre Disc Manufacturers in India but AbrasiveOnline is the top class Fibre Disc Manufacturers.
