YARN FAULTS

•      Yarn faults have sizes from +100% and larger and length of 1mm and longer.

•      Their frequency is always referred to in terms of number per 1,00,000 meters of yarn.

 Classification of Yarn faults

1) Basic yarn faults or Mass/Diameter irregularities in yarn    
Divided into 23 classes in Classimate system
2)Foreighn matter faults Contamination : Polypropylene , Hair , Colour fibres
Foreign matter : Jute , Coir , Trash particles
3)Miscellaneous Count irregularities , Hairiness…etc

IMPERFECTIONS

•      The extremes of variations: Thin Places, Thick Places and Neps.
•      Thin Places: –30% to –70%.
            Thick Places: +35% to +100%.
            Neps:+100 to +400%
•      The neps are measured on the base length of 1mm.
•      Thin and Thick places are usually in the range of 1.5 times the fibre length
•      Determined by number per 1000 m or yd of yarn.


Imperfections/km

          Thin Places : -30%, -40%, -50%, -60%
            Thick Places : +35%, +50%, +75%, +100%
            Neps : +140%, +200%, +280%, +400%
Hairiness Value ‘H’ : The total length of all the protuding fibres over a sensing length of 1cm.
