YARN FAULTS
• Yarn faults have sizes from +100% and larger and length of 1mm and longer.
• Their frequency is always
referred to in terms of number per 1,00,000 meters of yarn.
1) Basic yarn faults or Mass/Diameter irregularities in yarn
Divided into 23 classes in
Classimate system
2)Foreighn matter faults Contamination : Polypropylene , Hair , Colour fibres
Foreign matter : Jute , Coir
, Trash particles
3)Miscellaneous Count irregularities , Hairiness…etc
IMPERFECTIONS
• The extremes of variations: Thin Places, Thick Places
and Neps.
• Thin Places: –30% to –70%.
Thick Places: +35% to +100%.
Neps:+100 to +400%
• The neps are measured on the base length of 1mm.
• Thin and Thick places are
usually in the range of 1.5 times the fibre length
• Determined by number per 1000 m or yd of yarn.
Imperfections/km
Thin Places : -30%, -40%,
-50%, -60%
Thick Places : +35%, +50%, +75%, +100%
Neps : +140%, +200%, +280%, +400%
Hairiness Value ‘H’ : The total length of all
the protuding fibres over a sensing length of 1cm.
